Still Need More Writers to Contribute to Our Poem ! :)

The “Create a Poem” is still looking for writers to write our community written poem!  How about some more writers add to it–I just don’t think it’s quite finished yet : )  I actually have another perk to add to the “create a poem.”  For those who help contribute to the poem-I will personally mail you a copy of them poem when it’s done and include all of the author’s name who contributed.  I will also put a copy of it in my next upcoming book! :) So if you want to become “famous,” or have a byline in this poem, write-write,-write! :) If you want to add more than one line, then feel free to add more if you have already contributed.  We just need more writers…..

The poem goes like this so far:

Into the darkness, I wept, so one could hear my tears.

My soul is forever broken.
Pieces that can never be repaired,
a hole that has been shattered into a million slivers.

Longing for the touch of the one I loved.

If you feel just a faint spark of creativity, or want to change the spin on the poem (of course it must be related to the topic currently going), then add your line and see what we can create…  If you want a copy with your name in the byline, let me know and I will mail you one when it is finished.

Poem: Daily Prayer: Give me Patience.

Published by lilairthepoet under Poems Edit This

24804332.jpg

Lord, today I have a few things to pray.
First, I want to thank you for this life that you have given me.
I am blessed to have a home, and food to feed my family.

Next, I need your guidance for patience, Lord.
Please help me from falling asleep when I grow bored.                                         Especially when I am at work or watching a movie that I so dearly agreed to see.

Give me patience, so that I don’t grow angry,
while I wait in a long line,

With my one gallon of milk, and one checkout worker-
And especially the fella behind me,
who continues to ask me for the time.
Lord, please give him a watch!

Give me the patience when the boss is at work,                                                 and continues to ask the same questions from last week.                                                    I promise, Lord, that those reports will soon get done.                                                   Give me morals, so that I don’t repeat the things running through my head.

Give me patience, when my spouse leaves out their dirty socks and clothes
on the floor once again,
or their junk, sitting out on the kitchen table.
I honestly would never mean to hit him over his head.

Last of all, I am truly blessed, for this wonderful family and life.                                While I may grow weary on some days,

I try to remember how you paid as you loved us, no matter what.

And then the patience doesn’t come so hard.                                                                   Even when the kids are yelling at the top of their lungs, all over the yard.

Celebrate Back to School with a Poem!

school.jpgOne more month of the heat of summer is left, and the children will be heading back to their wonderful classrooms at school again. It’s hard to believe that summer is coming to a close, and soon enough, the house will be come eerily quiet once the children are gone for the day. Some children can’t wait to get back to school, while others are just not looking forward to it at all. There may even be the few who just might leave the house kicking and screaming-begging for just one last dip in the pool-or one last ice cream cone…..please???

Try a fun activity with the kids at home. This will probably work for 4th grade and up. Sit the children down at the table and have them think of at least 1-2 things that they love about school. Warning-this could be hard for some!

Let the children write down their own thoughts about school, what they love, what they don’t like, and things they are looking forward to. Have them write a little mini poem. Don’t apply any rules–It doesn’t have to rhyme, it doesn’t have to have so many sentences—Just let them free write. This could help some get some of their feelings out about school, and possibly why they could be scared about going to. Of course, if they love school, then this is a fun project for them!

A project for the parent could involve writing a poem about why you are going to miss the children at home, but how you are looking forward to seeing all that they do at school this year. Everybody can take about 15-20 minutes to sit at the table and write. After everybody has completed their poems, share them with each other. You can save these for later to put in a scrapbook or put in a frame for safe keeping. Poetry is a great way to get the family sharing and expressing their feelings. So if your school age children are feeling a little iffy-have them write it out-It actually could make them feel better…

Got writer’s block?… Tips on how to beat it.

24625155.jpg

We all come acrossed it at one time or another.

The piece of paper is laying down in front of us, and our mind is just blank.  We stare into space hoping for some kind of inspiration, or just hope that maybe our pencil might even make a scratch…this time.  Writer’s block can last for a few hours, days, weeks, or worse-months. For those who earn a living writing-writer’s block means bad news. There are a few tips to get past this horrible “writers disease.”  I often do an exercise with the members of my poetry club just for fun.  Every now and then, they may grumble about it, but always-they thank me for it afterwards.

Some things you need for this exercise is a regular size letter envelope, slips of paper, a stopwatch, sheet of paper, and of course–a pencil.  Think of a random topic -say-seasons for instance.   Then choose a season-like..-summer.  Take the slips of paper and write different subjects about summer-(for example: sun, hot, ice cream, swimming pool, water, school vacation, children, flowers, etc).  Take these subjects and mix them up in your envelope.  Once you are finished, draw out a slip of paper without looking.

Set your timer for 10 minutes, and begin writing ideas and sentences about your topic. Try to create a poem from your ideas.  This will get your mind thinking, and coming up with various ideas.  Before you know it-you might have a new poem in front of you!

Save your envelop for later, so that you can use it again when writer’s block hits.  Not to mention-it’s a lot of fun to do with a group.  After 10 minutes, you can all share your poems with each other just to see what you come up with.  It’s a fun easy way to beat writer’s block.

Try it sometime—and do it for a game with a group of people who enjoy writing.   It could be fun to see what you come up with.

An Animal for the Day

Published by lilairthepoet under Poems Edit This

300_93727.gif

If I could be an animal for the day,
And sweep away the stress of the busy human way,

I might decide to be a graceful horse.
The beauty of the horse,
So grand with soft colorful coats of coarse hair.
And the way they gallop through the fields of land and flowers,
Without a care in the world.
A horse for the day, would be like a young innocent child,
Running carefree in the warm sunshine,
The brightness surrounding and sparkling on that precious coat of fine beauty.

Or perhaps I may decide to be a wild lazy alley cat.
And lounge in the tall hidden green grass,
Chase animals for a big mysterious adventure,
Or cuddle in a loving person’s lap
Without a worry in sight.
Falling asleep in the cool evening night.

And then I could fly high up above in the deep blue skies.
Soaring beyond the clouds feeling free and nothing but the
Wind in my wings.
I wouldn’t have to worry about keeping my feet on the ground,
Or where I was going.
I could fly beyond my destination, wherever the wind would take me…
There wouldn’t be a certain time, or place.
It would just be a flight, going to wherever and whenever I may please.

There’s something mysterious, yet something precious about these animals.
They don’t experience that stress of the daily human.
Most just graze, play, run, and fly-
Why sometimes a human should take this wise advice to their own minds.

Take a moment to graze,
Or run about in a field nearby.
Feel the sunshine against your face.
And pretend, that just for a minute,
You might be one of these animals,
Just for a day.

Help Create a Poem…

Join in the first ever community written poem here at ” A Poet’s Word.”

24399209.jpgThis could be a fun “social poetry experiment.”  I used to write poems with friends through emails and and we would all take turns writing lines.  I thought it would be a neat idea for writers within this community to write a poem together.

For starters, I will begin the first line, and then from there, lines of poetry can be added through the comment field.  It will be neat to see the twists and turns that this possible poem could take….

So if you are feeling creative, and would like to join in the blog’s first community written poem, click on the “Create a Poem” section on this blog, and begin adding lines to the current “untitled” poem so far.

The first line starts as:

“Into the darkness, I wept…”

———————————————-

Let’s see where we can take this!…. So everybody participate to the best of your ability. When it is finished… I will post it on the blog and make a section where we can view all of the community written poems.

Men and Women: A Poem to the “Man”

Published by lilairthepoet under Poems Edit This

22851910.jpgWARNING BEFORE READING THIS POEM:

This poem is meant to poke fun at the complete differences between men and women.  I am not in any way putting men down–just poking a little fun :)

It could bring a laugh or two out of you..

Ever wonder why women and girls go out on all of those outings,
And not take you?

Do you know why we get away to be on our own to browse as we please?
As I raise my hand, I shout…I do!

As the women admire art crafted jewelry, delicate painted stained glass, or amusing little trinkets,
The man would stop and complain…
And he then would ask the awaiting questions…

“How much longer?
We’re looking where?
Oh boy,” as the man would sigh restlessly under his breath.

In a group of girls, we compare, take notes, and mesmerize over our favorite items.
We laugh, giggle, and appear to be carefree.
So the price was a little too high-but OH-it was so worth it!

But honey, I know, that if you were there,
You’d gently take it away and say.
Sorry, but not today.”
Or you would worry about the price and the money.
And look at me as if I were a small child and just shake your head.

When it’s the girls,
We like to take our time, because this is “our time.”
And if someone needs a restroom break-
Well then it’s a party for all!

But honey, again-I do apologize.
Sometimes when we are with the man-
We may not get to go at all!
Men can’t understand why one must use the restroom-that often!

Don’t get women wrong.
We all adore men.
And of course we love our husbands and boyfriends.
We enjoy your companionship and charming love.

But this time-do go ahead and put your feet up.
Watch the ball game, and order that pizza and barbeque wings.

After all-you wouldn’t want us there to complain about the game and food crumbs now would you?

I’m Giving You My Heart

Published by lilairthepoet under Poems Edit This

Here I am,
Presenting my heart.
I talk to you of hope and truth.
And try to describe every detail
Like a work of art.

I am giving it all,
And letting you see,
My every fall.

Here I am,
Giving myself to you.
My heart…
Its very whole,
Even when its been broken in two.

Read my stories,
Feel my pain.
Come sit with me,
Even when its pouring down rain.

I’ll bring you sunshine…
Don’t’ worry about the time.
Let me inspire you,
As we wine and dine.

Hear my words and the meaning…

I’m giving you my heart,
And bringing it home
To you.

The Old Pop Machine

Published by lilairthepoet under Poems Edit This

I see an old pop machine from my childhood
That brings back memories from the past.
My heart aches for those long lost memories,
As I wish for a few moments, that again,
I could be a child.

Late night walks with my family
As we walked the family dog.
Talking with my younger brother,
Joking with my dad or hearing about moms work day.

There were times, I just lagged behind just to hang onto the night.
Everything was so simple,
The worries I had then,
Just don’t compare to the stress of life today.
I chuckle at all of those useless, but meaningful childhood moments.

I scan all of the old flavors of that old pop machine
And I reminisce on each kind.
Remembering every taste,
And each moment I experienced that taste.

Some were sweeter than others,
While there were a few that had the sour puckers.
Perhaps those were the flavors of life…

A small pain in my heart is felt as I slowly begin to let go of
that old pop machine.
While the flavors remained the same, the cans had now become bottles to hold all of life’s new moments.

My hand slips over this old pop machine,
as I give a last wave to my old childhood flavor.

It’s amazing just how some things just aren’t as sweet as they once were.
While flavors may change over a lifetime, the memories of the taste, hang on forever.
